Research Paper

Hey guys, I updated the notes page and you can check it out to see all the articles I have started reading. I have a few more things I am trying to figure out but I will continue to be reading more articles and updating that page. I have decided that for a final product I will write a research paper and I will be giving you more information on that as well. Stay tuned for all of these updates that are soon to come.

New Project and Research

This week I started making progress on a new idea. After creating a prototype for the solar powered battery case I realized it would be a bit big and inconvenient. Instead I thought that I could set up one large solar panel and it could charge many portable chargers. This way students can check out portable chargers from the library and not have to sit next to an outlet in class. Also the power used to charge their laptops would be renewable and help the planet. I started to contact a lot of people around DA to help me expand this idea and I will update the blog when I get more responses. In the mean time while I work on that project I am going to be researching the growth of solar power over time. Solar power used to be so much more expensive and it was thought that the price of a watt would never go below $1. But currently we are well below that and that is because of the many improvements in both the technology itself and the manufacturing process. I am going to create a new page for my research and reach out to more people who I can interview. More information will be coming soon!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog about the journey of creating a solar powered battery case for our devices. There will be a lot of struggles and achievements recorded here.
My independent study will focus on the engineering process of creating a new product and the research behind how solar panels can be used in our daily activities. Our devices, that we spend so much time on, use a lot of power and are polluting the environment. My solution to this is using solar power, a renewable energy source, to help reduce the need to charge our devices from an outlet. I have always been fascinated by solar panels, but I knew one big problem was the large upfront cost. I thought that if miniature solar panels could be used in our day to day lives then we could reduce our carbon footprint without the extreme cost. This project will be challenging, but I know I will learn a lot from it.
The proposal page will direct you to more specifics on my project.
